Censorship exists since the time of society formation. Even at the times of the Roman Empire there were censors or assessors of morals and conduct. The full definition of censorship is the supervision and control of the influx information in the society. It’s also the official prohibition of any type of expression which threatens social, political or moral order. Nowadays, censorship is connected with the examining of the periodicals, films, TV or radio programs and other mass media resources. With the expansion of communication technologies it has become all-pervasive. Many people argue whether censorship is good or bad. So many men, so many minds. Some find it as the suppression of information. Others find the examination of media resources before they are out useful. For example, in 1934 in the Hollywood movie about Tarzan the nude scenes were snipped, as it violated the moral code. Even today the films follow a certain moral code. In my opinion, censorship is necessary to some extent. First of all, it protects the privacy of people and prevents plagiarism. It restrains vulgarity and obscenity. It censors the scenes of people consuming alcohol or smoking and this saves children’s minds from becoming corrupt. There are many pros of censorship. However, there are certain cons as well. For example, freedom of speech or free flow of ideas is compromised. Censoring of books or films may diminish their entertainment value. Basically, it works against creativity. After all, it’s a double-sided tool, which should be used properly.

Цензура існує з моменту заснування товариства. Навіть за часів Римської імперії були цензори або оцінювачі моралі і поведінки. Повне визначення цензури - це нагляд і контроль над вхідною в суспільство інформацією. Це також офіційну заборону будь-якого типу виразу, яке може загрожувати соціальному, політичному чи моральному порядку. В даний час, цензура пов'язана з розгляду періодичних видань, фільмів, телевізійних або радіопрограм та інших ресурсів ЗМІ. З поширенням комунікаційних технологій вона стала всепроникною. Багато людей сперечаються про те, хороша цензура чи погана. Скільки людей стільки й думок. Деякі вважають, що це, немов придушення інформації. Інші вважають попередній розгляд медіа-ресурсів корисним. Наприклад, в 1934 році в голлівудському фільмі про Тарзана були прибрані оголені сцени, які порушували моральний кодекс. Навіть сьогодні фільми дотримуються певного морального кодексу. На мій погляд, цензура в якійсь мірі необхідна. Перш за все, вона захищає приватне життя людей і запобігає плагіат. Вона обмежує вульгарність і непристойність. Вона засуджує сцени з людьми, які вживають алкоголь або палять, що не дає розтлівати дитячі уми. У цензури є багато плюсів. Проте, у неї є і певні мінуси. Наприклад, свобода слова чи вільного потоку ідей знаходиться під загрозою. Цензура книг або фільмів зменшує їх розважальну цінність. В основному, вона виступає проти творчості. Зрештою, це двостороннє поняття, яке потрібно використовувати належним чином.
